Job Description:
Provide care to patients enrolled in the Department of Family Medicine’s outpatient medication assisted treatment program for opioid use disorder. Patients are expected to attend weekly appointments with a physician and twice weekly meetings with a behavioral health specialist. The psychiatrist will meet with all patients to conduct a medical intake, start treatment, and be an active member of the patient’s care team. Patients who are compliant with the program requirements will be stepped down to less frequent appointments and their care will transition to their primary care physician within Family Medicine. The psychiatrist will serve as the addiction medicine specialist in the department and continue to consult and provide advice and guidance to other physicians, if necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Carry an active caseload of patients as stipulated by departmental policies
  • Serve as medical team leader of Family Medicine’s MAT program
  • Provide consultation in Family Medicine’s outpatient clinics
  • Participate in resident education curriculum and activities
  • Maintain and complete statistics of case activities as outlined in the departmental policy
  • Coordinate with other members of the MAT Team as well as with relevant healthcare and community partners
  • Participate in bi-weekly case conferences and monthly meetings
  • Participate in research and program evaluation, if interested

Required education/experience:

  • Experience or interest in addiction medicine and substance abuse treatment
  • Strong communications, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus

Required licenses/certifications:
Unrestricted MD/DO license for New York State; DATA Waivered
