Job Description: The Mount Sinai Health System is currently seeking a part-time (24 hours/week) Attending Physician for the Department of Psychiatry to join the REACH Program at the Internal Medicine Associates. This is an outpatient position as part of a multidisciplinary team treating patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. The practice is located on the upper east side of Manhattan and serves a diverse community. Mount Sinai has long been a champion of treating underserved and vulnerable populations and has a commitment to provide stigma-free treatment of persons suffering from addictions. This is an opportunity to work in an outpatient medical setting with a multidisciplinary team providing integrated care to a vulnerable patient population. The Respectful & Equitable Access to Comprehensive Healthcare (REACH) Program offers primary care services to patients who use alcohol and/or drugs or who are in recovery from addiction. Using a harm reduction model, REACH offers overdose prevention services, access to buprenorphine and other medicines to treat substance use disorders, as well as comprehensive primary care that integrates behavioral health (psychiatry, psychology, and social work). The REACH program further offers care coordination support from patient navigators and patient support groups. The REACH Program began as an outreach, testing and treatment program for patients with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection and continues to offer these services as well within the primary care and outreach settings. In addition to this psychiatrist position, the REACH team consists of 20 additional team members (6 physicians, 1 NP, 2 RNs, 2 social workers, 1 clinical psychologist, 5 patient navigators, 1 program manager, 1 data manager, 1 community health care worker).
Job Responsibilities: The psychiatrist will see patients at 5 REACH clinic sessions where he/she will provide psychiatric evaluation, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, medication management, and referrals for long-term treatment. He/she will have the opportunity to participate in research initiatives to improve understanding and care of this vulnerable and diverse population of patients. Responsibilities include tracking all referrals and follow-up with patients and referral contacts, documentation in the medical record, coordination of care with the medical staff and patient navigators, and participation in weekly case conferencing. The position involves using your skills as a psychiatrist, addictionologist, teacher, and interdisciplinary team member. For those interested in research, there are many opportunities and mentorship available. Teaching responsibilities are encouraged, but not required.
