Job Description: A Leadership Opportunity: The University at Buffalo (UB) seeks an addiction psychiatrist with clinical and research skills for a key leadership role in a nationally recognized interdisciplinary research institution. The Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry will be based in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Department of Psychiatry, and will have an affiliated faculty position with the UB Clinical and Research Institute on Addictions (CRIA). This position may be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This is a central position to a high-priority university-wide initiative to promote UB’s rich expertise across medicine, the health professions, social sciences and law for the advancement of clinically relevant scholarship in addictions. Institutional Priority for Public Health Impact: UB has identified addiction as a major institutional priority to redesign research infrastructure and resources to accelerate team science for greater public health impact. This institutional redesign is being spearheaded by the Clinical and Research Institute on Addictions (CRIA). The UB CRIA is among the nation’s largest and most productive addiction research centers with approximately 60 faculty working collaboratively from UB’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, as well as the Schools of Nursing, Social Work, and Public Health and Health Professions, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Education.
Job Responsibilities: Summary of Expectations: The Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry will develop and collaborate in research in substance abuse/addictions including obtaining external funding and publishing findings; provide education/training with residents and medical students; and contribute to clinical treatment operations. The position carries significant protected time that will allow for the development of institutional leadership while building a robust research portfolio.
The chosen candidate will be expected to:
- Grow and lead funded addiction treatment research related to the opioid crisis and other addictions.
- Partner with diverse CRIA faculty in University-wide leadership of research.
- Mentor faculty and trainees in addictions treatment and research in psychiatry and across CRIA.
- Work with faculty and community to develop addiction psychiatry fellowship.
Required education/experience: MD or DO. Track record of externally funded scholarship related to addiction psychiatry – with expectation that future research would be related to the prevention or treatment of addiction
Required licenses/certifications: The applicant should be board-certified in Addictions Psychiatry. Eligible for license to practice medicine in NYS, with no license restrictions.
