Job Description: VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER Psychiatrist (Addictions Division) F63790 The Division of Addiction Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine invites applications for faculty position for a psychiatrist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to begin as soon as possible.

Job Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position include providing clinical coverage and teaching of residents and medical students at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. In addition, successful candidates may participate in federally funded addictions research as a co-investigator or principal investigator. There are well-equipped and staffed research facilities including the Collaborative Advanced Research Imaging facility, which houses a new research-dedicated 3T MRI scanner, outpatient research treatment facilities, and human behavioral laboratory facilities.

Required education/experience: Applicants should have a U.S. medical degree or equivalent (M.D. or D.O.), with licensure (or license-eligible) to practice in the State of Virginia and DEA licensure. Post-doctoral credentialing in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry is encouraged, an active interest and background in clinical work in addictions is required. The Addiction Psychiatry Division has close ties and/or collaborations within the VCU School of Medicine with Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Neurology. In addition, there is a close working relationship between the Division and the Mental Health Service at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Hospital. Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Required licenses/certifications: VCU Department of Psychiatry employs over 80 fulltime faculty and has well-funded research in genetics, addictions, child and women’s mental health, and psychopharmacology. VCU is a large urban university with robust health science campus and 750-bed university hospital. Richmond, the State Capital, has moderate climate and a rich mix of history with modern facilities, excellent suburban housing, and public/private schools. Low cost of living.
