AAAP’s Education Committee is happy to introduce the new Education Awards! Winners of both awards will receive free registration to join us at AAAP’s 33rd Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium.

The AAAP Award for Medical Student Education (AMSE)

The AAAP AMSE recognizes an Addiction Psychiatrist in clinical practice who demonstrates a sustained record of outstanding contributions to medical student education in Addiction Psychiatry.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • MD/DO psychiatrist in active clinical practice
  • AAAP Member
  • Past recipients of this award will be re-eligible in 5 years

Award Criteria:

  • Significant and sustained (at least 2 years) contributions to medical student education in Addiction Psychiatry
  • Record of achievement in one or more of the following categories:
    • Development/implementation of innovative teaching methods
    • Development/implementation of new educational programs
    • Development/implementation of novel clinical training experiences
    • Development of curricular materials
    • Course design and administration
    • Clinical supervision and bedside teaching
    • Mentoring of students in the classroom or clinical setting

AAAP Award for Residency Education (ARE)

The AAAP ARE recognizes an Addiction Psychiatrist in clinical practice who demonstrates a sustained record of outstanding contributions to psychiatry residency education in Addiction Psychiatry. *This award does not apply to fellowship training and specifically recognizes education of general psychiatry residents.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • MD/DO psychiatrist in active clinical practice
  • AAAP Member
  • Past recipients of this award will be re-eligible in 5 years

Award Criteria:

  • Significant and sustained (at least 2 years) contributions to the education of general psychiatry residents in Addiction Psychiatry
  • Record of achievement in one or more of the following categories:
    • Development/implementation of innovative teaching methods
    • Development/implementation of new educational programs
    • Development/implementation of novel clinical training experiences
    • Development of curricular materials
    • Course design and administration
    • Clinical supervision and bedside teaching in a variety of settings (community mental health, academic medical centers, outpatient clinics, inpatient units, emergency department, etc.)
    • Mentorship and career advising of residents

The application deadline is July 31.
