EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma and disturbing life experiences by reducing the emotional intensity of painful memories.  It uses bilateral stimulation–such as eye movements, taps, or sounds– while recalling distressing events to help the brain reprocess memories.

Dr. Goldfarb will explain the basics of the Trauma Response Cycle and describe this powerful EMDR treatment.

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to :

  • Define Trauma Informed Care
  • Understand the 4 main parts of the Trauma Response Cycle
  • Be familiar with Bilateral Stimulation
  • Understand 8 Phases of the EMDR treatment
  • Describe Resource Development and installation
  • Understand who can benefit from Resourcing with Bilateral Stimulation & EMDR Processing

The Addiction Psychiatry Advanced Psychotherapy Curriculum on-demand sessions, developed by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) in collaboration with Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and NYU School of Medicine, are a great way to keep up to date with best practices in patient management on your own schedule.
