About the Newsletter

The AAAP Newsletter is a publication distributed to members of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. The newsletter is also distributed at various national conventions and to potential AAAP members. The AAAP News is published three times a year: Spring, Summer and Fall. The newsletter is now available on Flipsnack to everyone starting with Fall 2020.

Corneliu N. Stanciu, MD

Dr. Stanciu is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine and the Director of Addiction Services at New Hampshire Hospital. Throughout his career, Dr Stanciu played an active role in academia having published a multitude of highly-cited papers on themes related to addictive disorders, particularly Kratom and new psychoactive drugs. He is on the editorial boards of three journals and has received multiple awards for excellence in research and clinical care.

Dr. Farahmand completed her undergraduate training at the University of California San Diego in Neuroscience and Animal Physiology. She received her Medical Doctorate from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. She is triple board certified in psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. She completed her child psychiatry training at NewYork Presbyterian Columbia-Cornell, and her addiction psychiatry training at Boston Medical Center. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Langone, and works as an inpatient child psychiatrist at Bellevue hospital. She teaches courses on adolescent addiction to New York University medical students, residents and fellows. She also participates in clinical research with interests related to child and adolescent substance use disorders, and problematic internet use/ addiction.


Oluwole Jegede, MD, MPH

Early Career Editor

Dr. Oluwole Jegede is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and Director of the Medication for Addiction Treatment consultation clinic at the Connecticut Mental Health Center, New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Jegede obtained his medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from George Washington University, Washington DC. He completed his residency at One Brooklyn Health-Interfaith psychiatry program where he was a REACH scholar and program wide Chief Resident. He completed his Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. Oluwole’s core research interests include addiction pharmacology, health disparities, and minority health research. His work also explores the impact of racism and other social determinants of health in individuals with substance use disorders and complex psychiatric disorders.


Manuscript Submissions

Interested in submitting an article to the AAAP News? All members including trainees are welcome to submit manuscripts on issues that are timely and pertinent to the field of Addiction Psychiatry. Case reports / professional experiences, brief reviews, opinion pieces, interviews and commentaries are all welcome. In preparing the manuscript please keep in mind a length requirement of 250-1000 words and AMA format for citations. Submissions are accepted year-round and should be sent to [email protected]. Review Process

Upon receipt, manuscripts meeting the required format will undergo review by the Editorial board and a decision on whether to accept will be made. The Editorial board will then work with the author and make recommendations or request changes in order to bring the manuscript in to a final form.
