Sheldon Miller Early Career Nominations & Education Awards Applications are open!

We’re excited to announce that applications are officially open for our two Education Awards! Additionally, nominations are being accepted from residency directors for our esteemed Sheldon Miller Early Career Award. It is important to highlight that the Sheldon Miller Early Career Award operates solely on a nomination basis. To be eligible for this honor, rising PGY3 residents must receive a nomination from their residency director. All the details and guidelines can be found below. We look forward to your submissions and nominations!

Sheldon Miller Early Career Award

This Award is given to rising PGY3’ss residents (PGY3s starting in July 2025) enrolled in programs related to the treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.

Please nominate an individual who has demonstrated interest in the field of Addiction Psychiatry. This award is designed to help expose PGY3 Awardees to valuable AAAP opportunities. Once the residents have been nominated, they will receive an email with access to submit their application.

All awardees must be formally nominated by their residency directors. Nomination Applications close on May 26th, 2025.

Residency Education Award

This award is given to an Addiction Psychiatrist in clinical practice who demonstrates a sustained record of outstanding contributions to psychiatry residency education in Addiction Psychiatry.

Winners receive free registration to the 36th Annual Meeting, one free year of AAAP membership, and also receive a plaque during the award ceremony. Application deadline is June 23rd, 2025.

Medical Student Education Award

This award is given to an Addiction Psychiatrist in clinical practice who demonstrates a sustained record of outstanding contributions to medical student education in addiction psychiatry.
